Ch. Trailchasers Best Defense reflects the breeding niche of his outstanding pedigree that combine the strength’s of his sire, Ch. Trailchasers Iron Eagle and his dam Trailchasers Black Velvet acquired from prominent Maple Hill Farm breeder Bill Cosner. As a youngster, Calbert showed early on that he would not be ignored, as he constantly demanded attention at home and carried that tendency right into the show ring. At the 1993 National Specialty, his first appearance in the show ring, Calbert was awarded Winner’s Dog while being handled by Jayne’s 17 yr old son, Tom. That moment was the beginning of a show career kept fun and challenging by his gregarious and energetic nature. Calbert’s accomplishments in the ring include multiple Group wins and placements, along with the prestigious Best of Breed award at the 1997 National Specialty in Columbus, OH. As a sire, he has passed along his strengths and zest for fun and games to his offspring. One of Calbert’s biggest fans has been his co-owner Dr. Gerard Nash. Dr. Nash supported Calbert’s career all the way, making it possible for Jayne and Calbert to compete together as a team throughout his career.
