NATIONAL SPECIALTY 
Well, I can now breathe a sigh of relief and report that the 1988 National Specialty is history!! Saturday, April 16, 1988, saw an entry of 21 Black and Tans in the first Futurity, 35 in Sweepstakes, and 61 in the regular classes!! 
I would like to extend a special thank you to all of you who supported this National even with all the problems we encountered. When I received the judging program, it made me feel that all the headaches perhaps were worth it!! 
Thanks to Roger and Lu Fredette who brought all the trophies down on their midnight run from Rhode' Island. The beautiful glass trophies made a lovely display. I still shudder every time I think of the hurricane lamp that almost shattered on the floor during the photos of the Futurity winner!! 
Congratulations to all the winners. It was a marvelous experience seeing all those wonderful Black & Tans and the sportsmanship was to be commended. 
Congratulations are also in order for Club members Susan Lundquist and Margo Sensenbrenner who were prize winners in the Specialty raffle. Enjoy!! 
It was a very special weekend for me and I enjoyed meeting all of you who attended. It's always nice to meet in person the names you read about in the newsletter. If not before, see you in 1989 at the National!! 

Some interesting facts about the National:, 
1. Breed winner Ch Traverse Hill Flashdance went on to take a Group 3 under judge Paula Hartinger. 
2. This year's Breed winner was Winners Dog and Best of Winners at last year's National. 
3. BOB and BOS were littermates bred by Bruce and Beverly Hanna. Sired by Ch Codach's Lyrical Rebel Yell x Ch Twinlakes Tar Baby. 
4. Lisa Johns and Vicki Redditt had a grand weekend. Their Silver Ridge Hurricane Lacy was Grand prize Futurity winner and Best in Sweepstakes!!

The editor observed that there was one Black and Tan Coonhound entered in Obedience in the Novice B class. However, no word has been received as to whether the entry showed and qualified. 

1988 REGIONAL SPECIALTY 
The Board has approved a proposal for the Regional Specialty to be held in Mesa, Arizona on October 29, 1988. Application is being made to AKC for approval to hold this event. Watch for further word and be prepared to make reservations early since the date falls during the Phoenix, Arizona, tourist season.
