Recipes for Food Gifts

• 1 (4 oz.) Hershey bar
• 1 c. chocolate chips
• 2 Tbsp. shortening
• 1 bag salted pretzels (twists)

Melt Hershey bar, chocolate chips and shortening in the top of a double boiler until completely melted. After melted, dip pretzels in chocolate, using tongs and tap lightly. Place pretzels on waxed paper. If chocolate mixture gets thick while it's melting, add a little vegetable oil.

• 1/3 cup beef bouillon powder
• 1/4 cup dried onion
• 1/2 cup split peas
• 1/2 cup small macaroni
• 1/4 cup barley
• 1/2 cup lentils
• 1/3 cup white rice
• pasta shapes
• 1 quart canning jar
• square of white net

Layer all ingredients in canning jar. When You Have the white rice in the jar, put a large square of white net in jar, and then fill with Pasta Shapes. Decorate jar with a bow and give to a friend with these instructions.

In large pan, brown 1 pound ground meat in a little oil. Remove the large pasta shapes from top of jar and set aside. Add the rest of the jar contents to the pan with 12 cups water. Bring to a boil and simmer 45 minutes. Add pasta and simmer 15 minutes more.

• 8 quart package of nonfat dry milk
• 2 pound package of chocolate instant drink mix
• 16 ounce jar of non dairy creamer
• 1 pound of powdered sugar
• 8 ounce jar of flavored creamer (hazelnut, amaretto, etc.)
• one bag small colored marshmallows

Mix all ingredients together and place in airtight jars. Decorate jar and give to friends.

Place 3 Tablespoons of mix in a cup and add 8 ounces of boiling water.

• 3/4 cup white sugar
• 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
• 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 1/2 cups orange slice candies, quartered (10 ounce package)

Mix together flour, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside. Layer the rest in order given in a quart sized "wide mouth" canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place. Then add flour mix. Add the orange candies last.

Directions: Put cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix with 1/2 cup soft margarine. Add 1 egg slightly beaten and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Shape into large sized balls and place 2 inches apart on sprayed baking sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to racks to finish cooling. Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
